Birthday and Blessing

Happy Birthday to my smart, sweet, determined, curious and relentless 5 year old bundle of perfection. We love our sweet little Megan!

Our blessing for Joseph didn't quite go as planned, but it was very sweet and intimate. We are so thrilled to have him in our home and family. These mighty men came to our hospital room and had traveled from far away to perform this ordinance. We were able to unhook him from the monitors for a few minutes to dress him in this beautiful outfit made by my talented Aunt Jodi. When we get home and his cheeks heal up from the tape, I will take some pictures of him in it. Thanks to all who were able to make this possible for us. We love you.

Sad Day

Too many things to do... Sometimes you are given the chance to slow down and focus on what's really important rather than all of the stuff  you have made important that isn't.
Meg' birthday party is supposed to be tomorrow. I have been sewing and crafting like crazy trying to plan a perfect 5 year old party that meets her high expectations. Also, Joey's blessing is scheduled for Sunday and I was planning a get together and dinner after that. In the middle of all of this, we have been sick with colds, all of us.
Yesterday afternoon Joey had a blue spell. His lips and fingers and toes turned blue. I knew he had been wheezing and it had been getting worse. I headed for his dr in a hurry where they then turned around quickly and called the EMT's to take us to the hospital. He never stopped breathing, he just wasn't getting enough air.
We have been in the hospital overnight and he's on oxygen and doing better. Breathing treatments have helped some, and he's being watched closely. Party stuff has fallen by the wayside while we try and get the baby well enough to come home. Meg is cool with it, because it gives her time to plan even more stuff she wants to do.
I am thankful for my Mom who is here to help with  kiddos and for the love and concern of friends and family. It might be a sad day to see my baby sick, but I have much to be grateful for.

Happy 20th Anniversary

For our 20th Anniversary, Justin had big plans. For weeks he schemed and planned and practiced with the kids to pull off a big surprise. First, we had dinner at the most exclusive and private restaurant in town.

The menu was carefully planned with choices of Chicken Parmigiana,  Top Sirloin Steak, or Spaghetti with bread. We had a choice of vegetables and baked or roasted potatoes to go with the entre. There were stuffed mushrooms or chips and salsa for appetizers and choices of ice cream with toppings for dessert. (We ordered chocolate ice cream, as you can probably tell by the waiters white shirt.)

We had music just for us and after dinner had the dance floor all to ourselves. No small children were allowed in this establishment for at least 2 hours, so he arranged a babysitter for our smallest darling. We had two of the cutest waiters ever. They were very attentive and careful and thrilled to finally let me in on the big secret.

After dinner we exchanged gifts. Justin had also been working hard on this beautiful hand carved vase and carried on the tradition of a rose that will last forever. This one is platinum dipped. It's very sweet. The vase is amazing.

20 years ago we were mere teenagers starting out on a grand adventure. We have made it through some hard times and across some rocky roads. We have also had the most amazing adventures and the best laughs anyone has ever had. We never expected to be where we are today with our little family. I can't wait to see what the next 20 years bring. Happy Anniversary!

Tricks are for Babies

One of the Doctors in the hospital commented to me that she had never seen a baby roll up on his side before from his back. He didn't really like being on his back. When they took him to exams or otherwise had him un-bundled, he would roll up onto his side. It's his favorite sleeping position. Now, at one month old, when placed on his tummy, he's rolling over. I have been hearing things like "I've never seen a baby do this before" or "That's unusual" in regards to this baby. He's definitely different than my other babies. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for him.

On totally another note... and you can stop here if you aren't at all interested in breastfeeding...
Breastfeeding moms often wonder how much milk their babies are actually getting. After not sleeping much for 3 nights in a row, Darling Joe finally slept last night. He only woke up to eat twice. This morning I had to pump, it was a necessity. I ended up with almost 7 ounces on one side. Ouch. I guess he is getting plenty to eat.

Self Sufficiency and other Goings On

What you do when you are almost 5 and you just can't wait another second for your mom to get done feeding/changing/caring for the baby and you NEED your gloves down because it's FREEZING in San Diego? Pull up the chair, then get the foot stool and hope for the best. It didn't work out all that well.

What do you do when you are a tiny baby and your family insists that you need 6 pacifiers in hopes that just one will make you happy? Find your own thumb. Much more satisfying, when you want it.

We are learning to be self-sufficient around here. It's a good lesson to learn early in life.

In other goings on... Mom and Dad had a date night recently thanks to Grandma Cozette being here. We did take the shortest one with us, as he doesn't love taking a bottle. Our date was from Justin's Christmas gift of 12 date nights. A walk around Mission Bay park and dinner at a food truck After searching for an open food truck on a Saturday night, we decided the ice cream truck counted. It was a fun night. We watched the sunset, watched some dancing and had a great walk and talk. Joseph wasn't thrilled the entire night, but he did pretty well.

We've had lots of visitors lately, and their adventures are coming up in another post. Also coming up soon, our 20th anniversary. What to do, what to do...
